Sak Yant in Thailand – Our second trip to the tattoo monks.
Sak Yant in Thailand – Our second trip to the tattoo monks.
Carrie and I have spent a lot of time traveling. We always look for meaningful, cultural experiences wherever we go, things we can share with people on our Thailand yoga retreats. There’s not much that can top our experiences with the Sak Yant monks in Thailand. These intuitive, mystical tattoo masters see truths inside of us that others cannot. They reach into the unknown and return with answers, guidance, and then place a blessing onto our skin, permanently protecting us.
For our Thailand yoga retreat we joined our guests for our second trip to the wild Buddhists. The “Yant”, or collection of symbols was chosen based on my birth date and what I desired to improve in my life. A mantra was placed at the bottom in a form of Khamer/Pali/Sanskri language, upside down so only the Ajarn who placed it could know it’s exact meaning. He asked me if I was ok with his rough sketch then the tattoo was quickly underway. The Ajarn (Sak Yant Master) is quick with his bamboo tattooing stick, manually poking the skin with handmade, natural ink. The pain helps you to remember the message, as self truths are sometimes hard to accept.
These are the types of experiences I want when I travel. Instead of bringing home a magnet or a t-shirt, I bring home a tattoo that will forever remind me of where I came from and where I am going. I really believe in the magic of the Sak Yant, as the tattoo masters always seem to find answers from somewhere. What other explanation could there be besides magic?
When you come on retreats with us, you can expect the opportunity to have unique and well curated experiences such as this Sak Yant tattoo. We use our travel experience to take you to well vetted, off-the-beaten path places that the average tourist on a week trip probably wouldn’t be able to find. We love blowing guest’s minds with what this world has to offer. We believe travel is one of the most healing and enlightening activities one can do in this life, and we are honored to be helping so many people to get out there.
Thailand 2025 is officially booked and I am excited to take my third trip to the mystical Sak Yant tattooed monks, along with whoever else feels called to join.
